If you are a renter like me, you know the struggle of the apartment hunting process, actually moving, and trying to nest and decorate your rental space as if it were your own.
I have been a renter since 2006 when I moved into my college apartment with a roommate. After some roommate shuffling, I ended up living with a friend from high school who coincidently ended up at the same university in the same theater department! Weird right? At this point in time, decorating was not a real priority. I received a bunch of hand-me-down furniture from family and friends.
It wasn’t until 2009 that decorating became a priority. Why you ask? Because I moved into my first place by myself! It was my 450 square foot studio apartment with a queen size murphy bed! That little space was the first time I really felt the desire to make it look pretty as well as decluttered and organized. Thankfully there was a lot of built-in storage in that space because not a lot of studio apartments do.
I have moved a few times since this first apartment experience and I am sharing my experiences as well as expertise. I have moved to places 600 sq. ft. to 1000 sq. ft. Having lived in both large and small complexes, I am sharing what has and hasn’t worked for me.
Hot Tip** Sometimes you have the ability to either negotiate with your landlord to replace dated pieces in your unit like faucets and appliances. I was able to update my old dated faucet in my current space to a Moen reflex faucet. It is a much better experience washing dishes since I don’t have a dishwasher.
