Closet Magic Week 1: Styling Layers, Neutrals, and Cozy Boho Winter Clothing
When the chilly days of January roll in, layering up without losing your personal style becomes a fun challenge. For me, this winter is all about embracing boho winter clothing—mixing cozy textures, earthy tones, and free-spirited vibes. I am creating outfits that feel like a warm hug while still looking chic.
As part of my 31 Days of Closet Magic Challenge, I’ve dedicated myself to shopping my own closet and styling pieces I already own in fresh, creative ways. I am trying to take a more sustainable approach to what I share online and giving myself a challenge to shop my own closet instead of purchasing more pieces to style.
I am here to share my boho winter clothing selections for the month of January.
Over the first week of this challenge, I’ve curated outfits that celebrate the best of bohemian winter fashion—think oversized sweaters, statement boots, and dreamy layering pieces that will keep you both warm and stylish.
If you’re looking for inspiration to reimagine your wardrobe this season, keep reading to see how these looks came together!

1. Layered Luxe
This theme encouraged the mixing cozy layers like knits, cardigans, and scarves in solid, textured fabrics. This cozy boho look was built entirely from pieces I already own (no shopping required!).
I’m wearing a forest green duster cardigan that gives all the wintery feels. I layered this cardigan over a cream tank and a Free People jumpsuit.
Finished it off with my new high-top Converse for that casual-cool touch. Perfect for a work-from-home day where comfort and style meet.
2. Denim Days
This theme encouraged highlighting a denim jacket or jeans in a versatile boho-casual look. I styled a ruffle floral mini skirt with fleece-lined tights (a winter essential!) and topped it with an olive green “In My Villain Era” graphic tee layered over a black lace top.
Adding an oversized denim button-down gave it that effortless boho touch, while my black Lane Buckshire Booties brought just the right amount of Western flair.
Accessories? I doubled up with a heart locket necklace and pearls for a modern-meets-vintage twist, plus my trusty black hobo bag to carry it all.
3. Sweater Weather
This day’s theme encouraged taking a chunky knit sweater or turtleneck as the centerpiece of an outfit. I started with a classic white cable knit sweater and paired it with a brown faux leather mini skirt for a little edge.
Fleece-lined tights kept me warm, while my tan Dolce Vita Western boots added that perfect boho-meets-Western flair.
To bring it all together, I layered on a floral kimono for a pop of print, added a crystal necklace for some sparkle, and finished with my go-to wicker circular crossbody bag.
4. Maxi Moment
This day theme encouraged styling a flowy maxi skirt or dress with boots and a longline cardigan. I styled it with a classic white t-shirt bodysuit and added a denim vest for that effortless, laid-back feel.
A waist-cinching brown belt pulls it all together, while my high-top white Converse keeps the look casual and comfy.
For accessories, I layered on a charm necklace, added a brown headband for a touch of boho sweetness, and grabbed my circular wicker crossbody bag to complete the outfit.
5. Neutral Ground
This day’s theme encouraged building a head-to-toe neutral outfit with varying textures for depth. This brown Savannah jumpsuit from Buddha Pants is the perfect base—so comfy and chic!
I layered it with a white bodysuit for a crisp, clean vibe and topped it off with a cropped distressed denim vest for a little edge.
White high-top Converse kept the look laid-back and fun, while a brown twist headband and my trusty white wicker crossbody bag added those finishing boho touches. Proof that neutral doesn’t mean blah—it’s all about the details!
6. Shacket Season
Style a shacket over a base outfit for an effortless boho vibe. This black-and-white checkered shacket takes center stage, paired with an oversized brown turtleneck sweater that’s perfect for tall-girl fashion (hello, extra length and comfort!).
This shacket was my sister’s who passed away in September of 2024 and I am honored to have it and to be sharing it here.
I balanced the look with ankle jeans featuring a fun frayed hem and added my black Western booties for a touch of edge. To keep it chic, I accessorized with a long gold locket necklace and my oversized black hobo bag. This outfit is a comfy yet elevated cold-weather staple for tall and midsize gals alike!
7. Cozy Classics
This day’s boho winter clothing theme included pairing a timeless cardigan with jeans and ankle boots. This outfit is serving up winter-ready vibes with this Abercrombie cream chunky knit cropped cardigan layered over a Queen Tour ’75 T-shirt.
I paired it with Abercrombie 90’s High Rise Ankle Jeans (perfect for tall women!), a brown leather belt, and white Sam Edelman Chelsea boots.
Fleece-lined boot socks keep it extra cozy, while layered turquoise and charm necklaces and a white puffer crossbody bag add the perfect finishing touches.
That wraps up the first week of my 31 Days of Closet Magic Challenge, where I’m proving you don’t need to buy anything new to create stunning boho winter clothing looks.
From playful layers to cozy classics, this week’s outfits were all about combining comfort and creativity while keeping things budget-friendly. I hope these looks inspire you to dig through your closet and experiment with your own pieces—because sometimes, the best outfits are already hanging right in front of you.
