My Journey to the Perfect Modern Interior Doors (and an Inspiring Office!)
Okay, friends, buckle up because I’m about to spill the tea on a project that’s been brewing in my brain (and slowly unfolding in my house!) for the past four glorious months. One of the biggest changes we’ve planned involves modern interior doors that will completely transform the look of our home. You know how it is when you buy a place โ back in 2021, my hubby and I snagged our little slice of heaven: a charming 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath situation with a study, a cute adjoining dining room, and a bonus room that’s still figuring out its life purpose (aren’t we all?).
We had so many ideas about creating open spaces and infusing our home with our personal taste.
Fast forward a bit, and we’ve really settled into how we use our space. Being a blogger by day and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach by my other day (talk about juggling!), I carved out a super cozy coaching nook in my master bedroom suite โ my little sanctuary for all things wellness. But my study? Ah, my study became my blogging HQ! Seriously, having two home offices feels like winning the adulting lottery. I’m counting my lucky stars!
Now, here’s where our story’s “quirky” part kicks in. My amazing blogging haven, my sacred space for crafting witty words and connecting with you allโฆ well, it was doorless. Yep, nada.
For a good couple of years, my super sophisticated (read: slightly embarrassing) temporary solution was a set of curtains. They offered a semblance of separation when I was in the zone, but let’s be real, they weren’t exactly exuding “inspiring office space” vibes.
Finally, the moment arrived. I was ready to ditch the fabric and embrace some real, honest-to-goodness modern interior doors that would not only class up the joint but also give me a little more privacy when I needed to laser-focus on my content creation.
My Door Dilemma and the Research Begins
So, off I went on a research adventure! I dove headfirst into the world of door design, considering everything from natural wood options to the latest “new product” designs. I unearthed a few companies that seemed promising and bravely requested some quotes for the work.
My husband and I then did the very adult thing ofโฆ sitting on it for a few weeks, weighing our options and probably overthinking every little detail. We even looked at some of our “own projects” for inspiration!
Ultimately, our decision landed on the fantastic team at Raleigh Doors & Closets! From the get-go, they just got it.
Finding the Perfect Contemporary Interior Doors: My Vision
The first big hurdle? Figuring out what kind of doors my heart truly desired. I was head-over-heels for the idea of French doors โ so chic, so airy! But alas, my space wasn’t exactly playing ball with that grand vision.
So, naturally, I did what any self-respecting design enthusiast would do: I created a Pinterest board. It became a glorious collection of door inspiration, showcasing everything from sleek, bold geometric shapes to the natural beauty of coastal environments (even though we’re in Raleigh!). I wanted something that respected the architectural style of our home while adding a touch of modern flair.
Exploring Different Door Styles
That’s when I stumbled upon the magic of pocket doors that would be a dream to create in this space. But our budget wasn’t there.
Instead, I learned about a more cost-effective option called a 3-door bypass system. Ding, ding, ding!
The bypass could be a game-changer for creating those open spaces when needed! It offered the sleekness I was after without the door swing footprint of French doors. And then the brilliant idea hit me: custom doors with windows! We could achieve that bright and airy “French door feel” without actually having French doors.
Genius, right? I envisioned a light color palette to keep things feeling fresh and spacious.
But wait, there’s more to this door-tastic saga! My entryway to my office turned out to be wider than your average doorway. Cue another lightbulb moment! Instead of one standard door, why not two smaller wood doors that push open? And to really amp up the “bougie” factor, we decided on some gorgeous crystal knobs.
Talk about a statement entrance! My initial plan was to have these two doors with windows as well, keeping that consistent light and airy aesthetic and complementing the flush floor designs we have.
To really get a feel for what was possible, my husband and I decided to visit the Raleigh Doors & Closets showroom in Cary, NC. And let me tell you, they went above and beyond! They even opened up their showroom for us on a Sunday, which, if you know anything about the South, is a pretty big deal! We were warmly greeted by Bailey, who took the time to really understand our door needs.
He patiently walked us through their various door designs, color samples, variety of finishes, and let us get up close and personal with different handles and knobs. Their showroom had such an inviting atmosphere! We were so impressed with his knowledge and the quality of their offerings.
To top it off, Bailey offered us a fantastic deal on our doors, and at that point, we knew we had found the right partner for this project!
Our Custom Door Order with Raleigh Doors & Closets
So, we excitedly placed our order with Raleigh Doors & Closets for our custom creations. Our total investment for these beautiful custom interior doors, including all the hardware, professional installation, and even a fantastic couple-year warranty, came out to around $6000.
We ordered a 3-door bypass sliding door with glass panels, as well as 2 smaller glass panel doors for the entryway that push open. The hardware was simple, we ordered a simple barn door handle, pocket door style pull for the opposite side of the 3-door bypass, and 2 oiled bronze door knobs with oval crystal clear knobs.
Full disclosure: We did receive a discount on this project because I pitched the idea of sharing this makeover journey on my blog to help market their business. However, please know that everything I am sharing here is based entirely on my own honest opinion and my personal experience working with Raleigh Doors & Closets. We knew we were investing in high-quality materials for durable construction.
The Unexpected Pivot and My Final Door Selection
Now, this is where the story takes a little detour. We got an update while we were patiently (or maybe impatiently) waiting for our dream doors to be crafted. The manufacturer had some concerns about the structural integrity and durability of the glass in the smaller doors at the dimensions we needed. Safety first, of course! We wanted to ensure the longevity of our investment.
Embracing Plan B: The “Valencia” Doors
So, it was time for Plan B. After a little brainstorming with the awesome folks at Raleigh Doors & Closets, I landed on a truly stunning alternative: the “Valencia” raised panel doors from their Signature Collection.
They struck that perfect balance between what some might consider “traditional charm” and the contemporary aesthetics I love, fitting perfectly into a “modern farmhouse” vibe without being overly rustic. I also appreciated the actual colors and the quality of the finish. Sometimes, a little pivot leads to something even better!
The Installation of My Modern Interior Doors and My Inspiring New Office Space
The next chapter in this adventure was the waiting game. Quality takes time, and these beauties were being custom-made just for my space. In total, the wait was about 3.5 months, with a good chunk of that being due to the little hiccup with my smaller door design. But hey, good things come to those who wait (and obsessively check their email!). I was also keeping an eye out for any “special offers” in the meantime!
Then, the glorious call arrived! My door installation was scheduled for later that week, and I may or may not have done a little happy dance. A massive shout-out to Sydni, Bailey, and Colin from Raleigh Closets & Doors!
They were absolute rockstars throughout this entire process โ always quick to answer my million questions and super helpful in guiding me to the perfect door decisions. Seriously, these guys understand interior design and how the little details, like the hinges and latch, truly matter! They helped me appreciate the visible structural elements in a new way.
The easy installation itself was surprisingly smooth and efficient. In about six hours, my door dreams were brought to life! And let me tell you, the finished product is absolutely PERFECTION! I am beyond thrilled with how everything turned out.
My blogging office finally feels like a proper, inspiring office space designed for open spaces when the doors are open, and those new doors? They’ve added such a sense of modernity and personality to my home, showcasing the beauty of natural materials and luxurious materials without feeling pretentious.

FAQs About Modern Interior Doors
Contemporary interior doors typically embrace clean lines, minimalist aesthetics, and often incorporate materials like glass, metal accents, or sleek wood doors finishes. The focus is on simplicity and functionality, with less ornate detailing and a design that feels current and uncluttered, often complementing modern or transitional interior styles. This style embraces a sense of modernity.
Popular modern home interior door styles include the simple and seamless slab doors, panel doors with fewer and cleaner lines, glass panel doors that maximize light flow, space-saving pocket doors and bypass doors, and the dramatic pivot doors. The best choice depends on your taste, the room’s function, and your home’s overall architectural style.
When selecting modern interior doors, consider the style and how it complements your home’s design, the functionality needed (like soundproofing or space-saving features), the desired light flow and privacy, your budget (including the “cost to install interior door”), the material (such as natural wood or metal), and the impact of the hardware choices. Thinking through these elements will help you find the perfect modern doors for your space and ensure durable construction.
